… some discoveries are made by the mere act of writing in itself, but most occur in the process of rewriting, in which the first voiced words work simply as the place holders of the thought, and it is only through great effort and patience that eventually solutions are found that have the argument laid out into some sort of cogency.  As with the soda examples below for example: they are barely meaningful, a few weak puns.  They merely show how everything is still to be discovered.  But then what is the possible importance of them, could they hav,e to start with?  Why should I have decided on them at all?  Clearly, the value initially discovered in them, it resided in the way that they created a disruption – wait a minute – stop there – in linear thought – which I can now work to =
